How to coach soccer is something that is of immense value because it’s not only about coaching kids on soccer drills? A soccer coach has to be hugely organized person. There are some initiatives discussed in the following paragraphs about soccer coaching that I’d like to you to adopt.
1. Remain in contact with the kids parents: This is one of the most important factors that influence a player’s performance on and off the field. Parents have a tendency to volunteer their time and services when they are sure of your capability and values as a soccer coach. And when you are aware of parent’s expectations from you and their kids, it’ll be easy for you to adjust your behavior accordingly.
2. Develop the habit of delegating responsibility: An effective training and practice schedule includes several tasks that may seem small but are indispensable. You can either take on the challenge of doing everything yourself or divide and entrust jobs that take a lot of time to kid’s parents and assistant coaches to manage. This will give you the opportunity to spend more time and effort with players on the field.
3. Guarantee your player’s safety: Make sure that players are wearing proper shin pads, socks and right kind of sneakers. Let the parents know what kind of shoes, socks and shin pads are appropriate for the kids. It’s the coach’s responsibility to ensure a player’s safety on field. And also when players do not get injured, their performance gets a boost.
4. Use a teaching grid: How to coach soccer is a way of life for a professional soccer coach. And the most useful organizational tool that a soccer coach can use is the teaching grid. Grid is nothing but a set of squares in which small groups of players practice. These drills do not allow the players to drift apart on the ground.
5. Always plan a practice session beforehand: Spend some time figuring out the results that you wish to achieve through the practice session. Choose the drills, select the players and the supporting material that is required to execute the drills well in advance. When teaching soccer, it works best to have a detailed plan to avoid wasting any time on the field.
6. Allocate enough time to players to practice: When the players get more time to practice, their soccer skills develop faster. And they get trained quickly. As time allows, end the session with a fun drill that allows every player to leave the field with a smile.
Yet, the most important decision that the soccer coaches need to make is to improve the level of the game and also keep the fun aspect alive. This is achieved only when they are given care, respect, and treated as individuals.
