But soon she could hardly lift her arm and she had trouble even holding a piece of chalk

There can be no doubt that modern medicine can do a great deal for you. But it is equally certain that you can do an awful lot for yourself, if you have the right mental attitude. Courage to hope and believe that you can lick arthritic suffering; understanding of arthritis and its treatment so you can work at home; perseverance in the Home Care Program to get its full benefits—these are the things you must hold in your mind. I have an all pure smoothie on a regular basis with blueberries, spinach, bananas, floor fax seed, protein, mango and kefer for breakfast, Forever Lite Ultra Vanilla for lunch and a sensible dinner.
Mrs. Louise G. was teaching in an area where the teacher shortage was especially acute. When arthritis hit her right elbow, right shoulder and finger joints, she tried to shrug off the pain and swelling so she could stick to her job. She could take it.
But soon she could hardly lift her arm and she had trouble even holding a piece of chalk. “I had to keep smiling for the children,” she said, “but the pain was so bad that I often took fourteen aspirin a day.” When she could no longer keep her records, another teacher did it for her. It was even arranged that the children should correct their own papers, using answer books. The principal of the school was understanding; he helped her as much as he could and gave her pep talks.
But at last she gave in. With her right arm useless and in a sling, she went to a doctor and asked him to sign a statement to the Board of Education to permit her to stop teaching.
“His answer was ‘no!’ ” she said, “he told me that my children needed me, that there are too few people trained to teach children. He insisted that with faith and courage and proper treatment I could overcome my arthritis and continue to teach.”
Mrs. G., with new hope, agreed, and started taking treatment. It consisted of medication to relieve the pain and swelling somewhat, followed by heat, massage, and exercise.
Six weeks later, Mrs. G. was back in front of her class again. The arthritis hadn’t completely left her body, but it was under control and she was continuing a normal and very useful life. Simply blend Forever Lite Ultra Chocolate with milk and ice cream or fruit and fruit juice for a low calorie treat. On Graduation Day she triumphantly autographed the classbooks of 115 seniors.
Afterwards, she would sometimes shudder a little when she remembered how close she had come to giving up. She knew that her recovery had started the day she decided she could recover.
